Most of the time the Kitchen is the most modern room in an old house. One way to bring the feeling of your old house into the new kitchen is with an Antique fixture over the kitchen island or kitchen table.

A three or four arm gas fixture is a great kitchen table fixture if your house was built from 1870-1900. Many of the details in hoses of this period can be found on the fixtures sometimes.
An example would be egg and dart detailing in a cornice or a fireplace from 1900 can be found as details in the body of a gas fixture or on the canopy. Please click here for example.

The same is true for the glass that can be found on fixtures and as details in houses of this period. Etched, cut and frosted glass on gas shades can be found on cabinet doors and exterior doors as well as mirrors. These all provide tie ins that can help a fixture bring the rest of your old house into the kitchen.

Another great kitchen table fixture that has a lot of tie ins to houses before and after 1900 are leaded glass inverted domes. Many houses have leaded glass windows that hold similar details and the dome can become a tie in to the rest of the house when put in a kitchen.
