Very nice Aesthetic 4 Arm Gas Chandelier from 1880
would be a really good Dining room light. There are many
Design details from the beginning of the reform half of the
Victorian era. The center pottery decoration is of colorful birds
chasing each other around the vase shaped cylinder.
Characteristic Eastlake detailing shows up in the Gas Keys, Florets,
and many other castings that make up the design. Wonderful
Eastlake decorated Gas Shades with Spades floral etching.
Birds were an Aesthetic symbol as well as the decorative spade an
Eastlake symbol. Characteristic flat banding and other somewhat
more minimal two dimensional details shows Eastlake
and the Aesthetic movement going their own way in reacting to the
Victorian ornamentation of the Revival Designs.
