  • Circa 1885
  • Serpentine elements
  • Deep acid cutback double etched Gas Shades
  • 36" drop x 28" diameter
    C. 1885, this Aesthetic period 3-light Gas Chandelier has wonderful stylized serpentine elements. Notice the coiled snake scrolls that fill the spaces on top of the gas arms. There is also the use of finials reminiscent of the rattles on the tail of a rattle snake. In addition, you have snake coils around the three rod center in two places, one just above the center ball, & one around the gas coupling near the top. These coils start with a tail wrapped around one of the three rods and continues to coil around all three rods. A beautiful stamped ball is in the middle of the three rods with rattle finials on the top and bottom. The Gas rings have similar details as the center ball. The double etched glass Gas shades have a great deep etched pattern on them. Finally, the patina on this fixture has a wonderful honey golden glow.
We believe the manufacture of this fixture can be attributed to Thackera , Sons and Co., which was working in Philadelphia in the middle of the 1880s.
